10 Quick and Easy Snacks You Can Take to the Office
Healthy eating is all about planning ahead. We have all been at that point where we waited too long to eat anything, and end up making poor choices. Any healthy eating plan should include the proper and easy snacks to keep you feeling satisfied all day.
Regular snacking is not the enemy- not being prepared is. Food that are high in refined sugars and unhealthy fats taste really good, but do not satisfy your bodies need for nutrition. As a result, the satisfaction lasts for only a short time and you feel hungry quickly even though you consumed a high amount of calories. The nutritional quality of the food plays a critical role in keeping you satisfied until your next meal.
So what are some quick and easy snacks for work that are healthy and will keep you full longer?
- Whole Wheat crackers and goat cheese.
The key to this easy snack is to be sure that the cracker says “whole wheat” and is not filled with white flour. A quick smear of goat cheese will add protein to the fiber in the cracker and keep you satisfied right on through till your next meal.
Apples are a staple in our office. They are such an easy treat to grab and eat on the go. Don’t forget that you can dip slices into a little bit of peanut butter for protein as well!
Another thing I see around our office all the time are nuts, most often almonds. Nuts are a great source of fat and protein and give you that little bit of saltiness I know we all sometimes crave.
- Nutrition bars/ Granola bars
Nutrition or Granola bars are always easy snacks to transport and store. Be sure your bar is high in protein and low in sugar. Not all bars are created equal!
- Wasabi peas and sesame sticks
Ok. I know these are a little strange, but give them a shot. I recently started munching on wasabi peas for a little bit of variety in flavor. Peas have more protein than most vegetables and the sesame sticks give you some carbohydrates for energy as well. If you don’t like spicy foods, just try some dried coated peas in other flavors.
- Whole Wheat Tortilla and Hummus
Hummus is made from chick peas and is packed with nutritional value. Spread it on a whole wheat tortilla, roll it up and pack it away for the day. Hummus also comes in a variety of flavors so it is easy to change it up every now and again.
- Pomegranate Seeds
These little flavorful bursts are great in the mid-afternoon slump. Just clean out your pomegranate the night before and bring these little beauties in to brighten your day and wake up your taste buds!
- Mixed Dried Fruits
Dried mango is my personal favorite. Grab a box of this delicious creation at your local grocery store and stash it in your desk for those sugar cravings.
- String Cheese
Who doesn’t love cheese? String cheese can be a low calorie satisfying snack that is totally packable.
- Dark Chocolate
Sometimes you just need some chocolate for those stressful days. Grab some dark chocolate pieces to keep around as a mood lifter and to keep you from eating that Snickers bar.
